Now that the call for proposals for the Climate Future Labs "Climate-adapted Urban Development and Spatial Planning" and "Impacts of Climate Change on Forest Ecosystems" has been closed since 30 November 2023, the proposals have been submitted to the VolkswagenFoundation, which has been commissioned by the Lower Saxony Ministry of Science and Culture as an independent expert authority.

The Ministry of Science and Culture of Lower Saxony will make the funding decision on the basis of the VolkswagenFoundation funding recommendation. The funding decision is expected to be announced in spring. The funded Climate Future Labs will then begin their work in summer. Calls for proposals for further Climate Future Labs is currently in preparation and will also be published in summer.
