Climate Future Labs

In our Climate Future Labs, we conduct research on the challenges and impacts of climate change, and we develop solutions for a safe and just climate future.

Signposts to a safe climate future

The Climate Future Labs bring together partners throughout Lower Saxony from the worlds of politics, the economy and civil society to engage in topic-specific research on the climatic challenges and impacts that will shape our future.

Each Climate Future Lab involves scientists from at least three different Lower Saxon universities and research institutions, as well as a broad network of non-academic partners. They work together in research consortia that span disciplines and locations, searching for approaches and solutions that are of high practical relevance.

The topics of the Climate Future Labs are a reflection of current challenges raised by climate change and their impact on the state of Lower Saxony. The labs are by no means closed entities. Instead, they seek to forge connections with all climate stakeholders and are open to participation and contributions.

Research at the ZKfN

Research at the (ZKfN) is oriented towards trans- and interdisciplinarity and the connection of university research, non-university research and practical partners from politics, economy and civil society.

The overarching goal is to develop urgently needed approaches in the context of climate and climate impact research as well as climate protection for changing our way of life and economy and to transfer these into practical applications in Lower Saxony. The interaction between ecological, economic and social aspects as well as overarching national and international findings are constantly included.

The connecting element of all main research areas and the projects within them is the overarching exchange between all stakeholders. The aim is to establish a Lower Saxony-wide network to share and discuss knowledge and solutions in order to meet the challenges of climate change from different perspectives.
